Autumn Music Series: Band of Skulls

A girl singer and an acoustic guitar always bring out my autumnal soul in the most wonderful of ways. This 2009 offering from Southhampton's Band of Skulls, the 5th track on their debut LP, is a sumptuous nectar for those increasingly dark nights.

Autumn Music Series: Fleet Foxes

Mood is something that is definitely important when it comes to fall songs. This track by Seattle's Fleet Foxes perfectly captures the mood of fall...darker, softer, and full of mystery.

Autumn Music Series: U2

Sometimes what makes a good autumn song is simply the time of year it was released. The Unforgettable Fire by U2 was released on October 1, 1984 and the months that followed were filled with its whispering embers from a brightly glowing hearth, keeping me warm as the winter rolled across Lake Michigan.

The title track from the album floods my mind with memories of my senior year in high school...with all the fury and passion that comes right before a finale. Even later, driving back and forth between Minneapolis and Racine during my first few years of college, this track went quite well with Wisconsin vistas and the rolling, dark hills of the fall...

Autumn Music Series: Harvest Moon

What makes a good autumn song? Several factors come into play but one of the most important traits is the theme. Neil did a great job with this track from 1992, capturing that profound romantic feeling that is truly only felt in the Fall.

Grab that special someone that you just can't keep your hands off of, pop open a bottle of Pinot Noir, find a fire pit and snuggle up to this leaf tumbling ballad...
